    Mission

    Barack Obama Elementary, a school with a recognized history of progressive education, is dedicated to providing students with a strong foundation for lifelong learning as well as the ability to and desire to make a positive contribution to the shared humanity of our world. 

    All students, parents, community members, and faculty work together to provide inquiry-based, transdisciplinary instructional experiences that bring our complex and challenging world to life in the classroom.  

    Such a focus promotes the overall academic, career, personal, and social development of learners who thereby become productive and compassionate global citizens.

    Vision

    Obama Magnet Elementary School is dedicated to focusing on our ABCs; we will continue to grow as lifelong learners through advanced academics and balanced education while demonstrating a high level of compassionate global citizenship.

    History

    Located in the Greater Belhaven historic district near downtown Jackson, the school (previously named for Jefferson Davis) sits across the street from the childhood home of renowned writer Eudora Welty, who attended the school during her elementary years. The school is known for its small, family environment and its commitment to progressive education.
